November 29, 1996 Scott McNear died today, the day after Thanksgiving. He was only 42 and he died of complications following surgery for colitis. He leaves his wife, Beth, and four young children as well as the rest of his family at McNear Brick in San Rafael, CA. Scott was my friend. And he was a friend of the masonry industry. No one promoted brick, and especially masonry fireplaces, as tirelessly as Scott McNear did. He was intelligent, well read, witty and kind to a fault.
